Mega MARVEL Movie News 3/17/11

A lot of MARVEL movie news has been hitting the net in the last 24 hours, here's the fresh news hot off the presses!

"The Avengers" Begins Production April 25th?

ComicBookMovie.com is reporting that they have stumbled upon an internet post that seems to confirm the production start date and filming locations for The Avengers. Though the post is not 100% confirmed it does seem to add weight to what we all ready know. According to the post The Avengers will be filming in primarily in Albuquerque, NM & additional shooting in New York, NY & Cleveland & Los Angeles, CA and production is due to get underway on April 25th. As DisFanReview is located in sunny Albuquerque, you can bet we will be all over this production!

Darren Aronofsky Quits "The Wolverine"

In the very same post over on ComicBookMovie.com they included the same sort of production information for the Darren Aronofsky helmed The Wolverine. The film is intended to be a sequel to 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine and was set to begin production in Mid July in Japan & New York, NY. However two major problems have arisen that make the future somewhat shaky for this film. First of all the current tragic situation in Japan is bound to have some sort of effect on the films production. It's possible that it may already have. Today Twentieth Century Fox announced that Director Darren Aronofsky has officially quit the film. The Black Swan director said in a statement today "As I talked more about the film with my collaborators at Fox, who have been totally supportive throughout my work on the movie, it became clear that the production of The Wolverine would keep me out of the country for almost a year." Where does this leave the films future? Well, apparently it's still strong. Fans really want to see this story as it is supposed to chronicle Logan's time in Japan as he learns the ways of the Samurai. Star Hugh Jackman is still attached to the film. It will remain to be seen if The Wolverine will make it's 2012 release date. However, MARVEL and Twentieth Century Fox are said to be "fully committed to making The Wolverine...we will regroup and move forward aggressively".

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance To Tweak Characters Origin Story

It looks like Nick Cage will have to change his story in the upcoming Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance the sequel to 2007's supernatural, superhero film Ghost Rider. Directors Brian Taylor and Mark Neveldine told Movieline.com that they are altering the characters origin story:
We basically completely re-envisioned the whole start of the character, and actually had to re-engineer the origin of the Ghost Rider. The whole mythology behind the Ghost Rider that existed in the comic books never really made sense to me, so we sort of had to re-engineer the entire back-story of the Ghost Rider into something new.
Ummm...Okay, but when you say "re-invision" doesn't that mean "utterly change" the characters back story? If So, how exactly does this make Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance a sequel? Well this is what they had to say about that:
We’re just looking at it as an evolution. The movie takes place years later. We’re not disowning the first movie but this Ghost Rider is an evolved form of the previous Ghost Rider. And the mythology that went behind it is stuff that never got delved into in the first movie, anyway. Like, they don’t talk about who the demon is from when Johnny Blaze becomes the Ghost Rider. We get into that and really get into who that guy is, what his story is, and what makes GR the way that he is.

MARVEL Moves Forward With Daredevil Reboot

New information today that David Slade (30 Days of Night, Twilight Saga: Eclipse) has been tapped by 20th Century Fox to direct the reboot of MARVEL's Daredevil franchise. Apparently the film will actually reference the events in the 2003 original staring Ben Affleck and be based on Frank Millers "Born Again" storyline from the 1980's comic books. However, Ben Affleck is out. The casting rumor mill says that Slade is looking at every 12 year old girl's favorite vampire, Robert Pattison(Twilight Saga) to play Matt Murdoch aka Daredevil. There are also new stories floating around that TRON: Legacy star Garret Hedlund is very interested in signing on as the blind lawyer and vigilante.

IRON MAN 3 Gets New Director

It was announced last week that Shane Black, director of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, and writer of such classic action films as Leathal Weapon 1&2, The Last Boy Scout, and The Long Kiss Goodnight has been tapped to direct IRON MAN 3. Now, dont get too excited, because this film is WAY down on the development list. Robert Downey Jr. and the IRON MAN suit still have to their appearance in The Avengers... Which as you read moments ago...hasn't even begun filming yet, so we're easily looking at 2014 or so for a release date. Black has said that the film will be a self contained adventure that will have no cameo's or crossovers. Oh, and thats not all. If you were tiering of the Iron Man vs. Giant Robot's or Man in Robosuit type story, worry not. Black has said that his film will have a more Tom Clancy type story, with more international espionage and more scenes of Iron Man taking on armies of real world type bad guys akin to scenes from the first Iron Man film.
