John Lasseter Says PIXAR Will Never Make A MARVEL Movie

Ever since Disney shocked the world with their purchase of MARVEL, fans and critics alike have wondered and debated the possibilities of superheroes in the House Of Mouse. More specifically, what could the digital wizards with the Midas touch at PIXAR do with a MARVEL superhero property? First it was the rumor of a possible Ant-Man film. Then there was the rumor of a very psychedelic Dr. Strange film that would be made by geniuses from Emeryville, CA. Then there was the quote from Disney CEO Bob Iger in September that seemed to add to the speculation of a PIXAR/MARVEL team up

"We've talked about it internally, Pixar boss John Lasseter talked to the Marvel guys about this and they all got excited about it. We think there’s ultimately some exciting product that could come of that."

Now, John Lasseter is utterly reversing course on that subject. In an article over at IGN Movies the Pixar boss and Disney Animation Chief was asked about the possibility and didn't mince words.

Not Pixar, we are -- Disney has been great. Bob Iger is phenomenal. I'm Chief Creative Officer of Disney Animation as well, and with Pixar it's like, "Keep doing what you're doing, guys." It's a filmmaker-driven studio. All of the ideas come from the filmmakers themselves. Working with the filmmakers on ideas. Then when Lasseter was pressed to clarify he went on to point out that PIXAR does have their own superheroes. "No, not at Pixar. We have The Incredibles, so we've done superheroes here ourselves and so we have that kind of history with Brad Bird doing The Incredibles."

Which seems to mean that while PIXAR wont be animating any MARVEL superheroes, apparently it is a very strong possibility at Disney Animation. While this may irk some Disney purists it will no doubt be a breath of fresh air to PIXAR fans who have supposed that the studio's recent embracing of sequels and blatant attempts to build the merchandising brand of CARS were signs of the studios decline.
