Annie Leibovitz has created some amazing images in the 2 years since she began the series for Disney Parks. However, she has never had an actor portray a character that they had also portrayed on screen. Obviously, she was able to get Johnny Depp to do it. Which makes this set of images that debuts in the May 2011 issues of Oprah, Real Simple, InStyle and People, kind of a big deal.
What makes this an even bigger, though slightly odd, deal is the presence of performer, writer and artist, Patti Smith. A pop culture iconoclast, that less than a quarter of Disney's target audience will recognize. She portrays...well, another pirate. Which is totally fitting given her unique history.
