Sneak Peek At The New "The Muppets" Poster

There has been a lot of buzz surrounding the upcoming return to the big screen for the Muppets. It will be the first feature film for the critters in over a decade. The last entry into the Muppet cannon was 1999's lackluster Muppets From Space. So, with a not so great preprocessor and over a decade gap since the last Muppet film, Disney and Co. have a small hole to dig these beloved characters out of.

Of course, over the past year Disney has manufactured a very large viral following for the Muppets on the Internet, via their Muppet Studio channel on YouTube. Yet the past few months have had odd little tid-bits about Disney's upcoming marketing of "The Muppets."

The first oddity was the new "Muppets" logo. For the most part it is unremarkable, except for the letter M which looks just like Kermit the frog's torso... minus his head. It is actually a little unsettling to behold. What is odder, however is the new teaser poster for the film. I cant really nail down what the poster and the tagline are trying to sell here. I just hope by the time "The Muppets" hits theaters in November that we have a better idea of why we should pay the highest movie theater ticket prices in history to see that the Muppets are "...Closer than You think."

Official Synopsis: On vacation in Los Angeles, Walter, the world’s biggest Muppet fan, and his friends Gary (Jason Segel) and Mary (Amy Adams) from Smalltown, USA, discover the nefarious plan of oilman Tex Richman (Chris Cooper) to raze the Muppet Theater and drill for the oil recently discovered beneath the Muppets’ former stomping grounds. To stage The Greatest Muppet Telethon Ever and raise the $10 million needed to save the theater, Walter, Mary and Gary help Kermit reunite the Muppets, who have all gone their separate ways: Fozzie now performs with a Reno casino tribute band called the Moopets, Miss Piggy is a plus-size fashion editor at Vogue Paris, Animal is in a Santa Barbara clinic for anger management, and Gonzo is a high-powered plumbing magnate. With secret, signature, celebrity cameos, “The Muppets” hits the big screen Nov. 23, 2011.

I am so so so so so excited for this!! The synopsis sounds so great for this movie, and I trust the performers and Jason Segel and his writing partner, but the new logo and this poster has me worried. I like the way Kermit and Co. look, but what is up with that tagline? What does it mean????

Hey Duke! I knew u would be on the ball with this lol!! Im struggling a little with the poster - I just think in my mind Fozzie doesnt look quite right! He looks too tall and too pear shaped I think! I know people are comparing the poster with the TS3 posters - where they slowly started putting out basic posters before they hit us with the great ones - Im hoping this is like that! I so so so hope they get it right with this film! I wanna see stores flooded with merchandise (in the UK too pleeeease!! lol) and hopefully they can get a whole new generation (or 2!) of Muppet lovers!
