VIDEO MADNESS - The Star Wars Holiday Special

This week we begin a new series for the holiday season! We look back at some of the forgotten Holiday Specials and films of years past. This week we kick it off with what is largely regarded as the single worst piece of holiday programming ever. The Star Wars Holiday Special. Aired on CBS in 1978, the two and a half hour program turned the amazing galaxy far far away into a ridiculous realm filled with painfully long conversations between Wookies and song and dance acts rejected from 1970's variety shows. He or she who actually attempts to watch this spectacle from beginning to end will find themselves in the endurance test of a lifetime. It is so bad, that George Lucas himself has said that if he could track down every single copy of this special, he would... and destroy them.

There are only two redeeming quality's of this late 70's suckfest. The first being a ten minute animated cartoon that is celebrated by Star Wars fans as the very first film appearance of Boba Fett. The second being that The Star Wars Holiday Special is also the very first instance of a Star Wars story taking place out side of accepted cannon. This is essentially the birth of Star Wars Expanded Universe. Having said that, the story sucks, but does leave the audience with a very silly idea of what the Imperial occupation of Kashyyk was all about.

Here in it's entirety is the long lost Star Wars Holiday Special:

However, If after watching the first few minutes you decide that you cant stomach the whole thing, here is the entire 10 minute cartoon adventure that is the first screen appearance of Boba Fett. Word to the wise, the cartoon isn't much better... but hey, it's not two and a half hours long.
