Passing Of A Legend: Robert B Sherman 1925-2011

It doesn't matter who you are. Does not matter what your station in life is or where you live. The odds are, the Sherman Brothers music has been a part of your life. Mary Poppins, The Jungle Book, and The Aristocats, they wrote so many of the most memorable movie soundtracks of the 20th century. They also manage to create a beautiful ode to world peace, that also happens to be considered one of the most annoying songs of all time, It's A Small World. However, it is that exact kind of contradiction that defined Robert and Dick Sherman. Robert Always seemed to be more gruff, direct... maybe even a little tougher. Dick always seemed more energetic, happy go lucky. An odd juxtaposition, but a dynamic that proved incredibly successful both financially, musically and emotionally. Now half of this enigmatic duo has passed into the eternities. There will be many other writers, and bloggers that will eulogize Robert Sherman far better than I can, so i will only offer this one thought. While we mourn the passing of a true genius who touched the hearts of countless souls, and we let sadness touch our hearts, we must remember his very own words, and be comforted and inspired by them. "There's a great big beautiful tomorrow, just a dream away."
