ABC Family's 'Bunheads' by Gilmore Girls creator Amy Sherman Palladino

Gilmore Girls creator, Amy Sherman-Palladino, is at it again with ABC Family's new dramedy, Bunheads. The pilot episode featured GG actresses Kelly Bishop (Emily Gilmore) and Rose Abdoo (Gypsy) along with familiar music leading into and out of the wide scene shots of another quaint small town with quirky residents. You may be relievd to hear that while the dialogue is still as quick and clever as GG, it does away with some of the fast paced obscure references that GG was known for.

  Sherman-Palladino said:
"I like snap, I like pace, I like energy, I like a lot of comedy in my dramas.... My hope is that Gilmore fans will find enough things that they enjoyed about Gilmore that they can bring to this, and yet sort of new fun relationships to get invested in."

What you will find is a different story about different women. Bishop is the small town of Paradise's ballet instructor. Her new daughter-in-law, played by (relatively newcomer to film, but seasoned Broadway star) Sutton Foster, is a Vegas showgirl, newly married to Paradise's favorite son, Hubbell Flowers, played by (the obscure but favored)Alan Ruck. Additional cast includes 4 personally diverse ballet students and one off kilter ex-girlfriend. Presumably, there will be plenty of relationship ups and downs, witty jabs and conversations that most girls wish they were a part of, and at least a third of a season to figure out if GG fans can be swayed with a new show.

Though the cliffhanger ending of the pilot episode was perplexing (what was the point of that character and couldn't writers have brought the characters together without that seemingly crucial character?) Let us know what you think after you watch the pilot available now on hulu.
