If you were watching Toy Story 3 and said to yourself, "Hey! I recognize that skull t-shirt" Then first of all, you have really good eyesight, and second you just recognized one of MANY "easter eggs' planted throughout the film, as is common place with all Pixar films. This special treat is exactly what you think it is. That garbage man in this scene from Toy Story 3 is in fact a grown up Sid Phillip's. Pretty cool huh? My biggest problem with Disney films recently has been with the utter lack of imagination and risk from some recent releases.(I.E. G-Force, Return To Witch Mountain, and every direct to video sequel over the past 20 years.) Now, in Disney's recent history, taking risks has paid big dividends, like "Toy Story 3," and the glorious return to hand drawn animation "Princess and the Frog." At last years D23 convention when Pirates 4 was announced, I was shocked that Disney was basing the 4th chapter of the series on a novel. Not just any novel, but a novel that most people are completely unaware of. Risky? Yes. An imaginative way to continue the series? Maybe. A reason to pronounce the immanent death of the series? No. So many media outlets are already saying that this new chapter will likely destroy the series that has helped to re-energize Disney film. But with no images from the film and only a brief description of the plot, it would be obnoxious and unwise to make such dramatic statements. But, It must be said that Disney's willingness to take unorthodox steps to continue this legendary series show's a certain swashbuckling swagger that Cap'n Jack would be proud of. Production of the film has gotten underway this week and here is the official description of the films plot:

Johnny Depp returns to his iconic, Academy Award(R)-nominated role of Captain Jack Sparrow, newly joined by Academy Award winner Penelope Cruz ("Vicky Cristina Barcelona," Rob Marshall's "Nine"), Ian McShane (HBO's "Deadwood") and newcomers Astrid Berges-Frisbey and Sam Claflin. Also rejoining Johnny Depp and Captain Jack are Academy Award-winner and three-time nominee Geoffrey Rush ("Shine," " Shakespeare in Love") and Kevin R. McNally (first three "Pirates of the Caribbean" films, "Valkyrie"). The film is slated to open May 20, 2011.

Rush reprises his role as the vengeful Captain Hector Barbossa, and Kevin R. McNally returns as Captain Jack's longtime comrade Joshamee Gibbs. Claflin stars as a stalwart missionary, while Berges-Frisbey is transformed into a mysterious mermaid.
