The TRON Legacy Blu-ray doesn't hit store shelves until next week, and already we have a sneak peak at two awesome video's contained there in. The first is the 10 minute short film "The Next Day." I am not kidding when I say this short may very well be the best TRON film yet made. Yes I know it sounds ridiculous, but this film manages to enrich the story of TRON Legacy, continue the story of the original TRON film and seemingly pave the way for a third. However, if this were to be the final word on the TRON series it would be a fitting end, as most loose ends would be effectively tied up. Although we have heard that there is a 20 minute version, which seems absolutely unnecessary.
The problem with the idea that "The Next Day" could effectively end the TRON series is the fact that this tiny video adds a new element which happens to be an old villain! The video is simply an internet chat between the conniving former CEO of ENCOM Edward Dillinger(David Warner) and his son Edward Dillinger Jr.(Cillian Murphy) This video is where people are getting the idea that these and numerous other video's on the blu-ray provide an effective set up for a third TRON movie.
Now, as much as I would gladly pay to see another installment of the TRON franchise, I myself must admit that these video's could mean nothing and simply be an indicator of what was planned had the TRON Legacy faired better in theaters. You can purchase these for yourself on the TRON Legacy blu-ray on April 5th.
