If we didn't know any better we would think it was an April Fools joke. Jennifer Garner has been cast as Miss Marple the unassuming older woman who solves crimes because the criminals generally disregard her as a nosy 'blue hair' and underestimate her ability to solve the case. Which makes you wonder, why on earth does Disney want 39 year old Garner to jump start a franchise that was begun by Agatha Christie in 1927, who's lead character is an elderly sleuth and as huge appeal... to the British and senior citizens?
Well, Disney must have a plan. They have been in negotiations for the rights to the character for months, and you don't spend that much time going after something if you don't have a plan. Maybe they think if they cast Miss Marple as a 'cougar' then they can make the character more appealing? Perhaps, but changing her age so drastically does seem to alter who the character is altogether. However, If there is any studio out there who could pull off a makeover this drastic, it's got to be Disney. We will simply have to wait and see.
