Loki, Skrulls, and Kree Confirmed As Villains in 'The Avengers'

As part of our continued coverage of the Avengers we have been able to confirm what had been just rumor. A couple weeks ago we reported that a teaser trailer for The Avengers had already been shot and indicated that Loki and the Skrulls would be the villains. Our source directed us to a listing for an open casting call for extras where we found this tid bit about the film's storyline:

"A superhero team called “The Avengers” do battle against two separate alien extraterrestrial humanoid life forms. The Avengers are a superhero team, consisting of a group of Marvel Comics heroes aka “Earth’s Mightiest Heroes”. The aliens that The Avengers will fight are called “The Kree” and “Skrulls”. These two extraterrestrial races become embroiled in a war for ages that ultimately makes its way to Earth, and the Avengers unite to intervene with all their power and might combined."

The Skrulls had already been identified, however this is the first that we had heard the Kree would be in the film. We were able to confirm in the listing that Loki is as well, a key villain in the film based on the attached cast listing:

Robert Downey Jr. – Iron Man
Scarlett Johansson – Black Widow
Chris Evans – Captain America
Chris Hemsworth – Thor
Don Cheadle – War Machine
Jeremy Renner – Hawkeye
Tom Hiddleston – Loki
Mark Ruffalo/Lou Ferrigno – The Hulk
Clark Gregg – S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Phil Coulson
Samuel L. Jackson – S.H.I.E.L.D. Director General Nick Fury

All information in the listing for the casting call comes from the films production company which makes this information pretty solid. We were also able to confirm with our anonymous source that pre-production for the film is in full swing. According to him... "Avengers is in Albuquerque and things are getting underway." However he also indicated that filming had not, as of yet, begun but was to begin "...Sooner than you might think." Below we have the full information on the upcoming Albuquerque casting call.
