Disney's Lone Ranger To Film In New Mexico?

With a major press push for Pirates Of The Caribbean 4, there have been recent reports that Jerry Bruckheimer and Gore Verbinski may be zeroing in on their lead for The Lone Ranger. As well, many more details are spilling out about the the up coming Disney Pictures production. A recent story in the L.A. Times suggest's that actor Armie Hammer(Social Network) may be in talks and is more than likely to be the man who dons the signature black mask.

In the L.A. Times piece Bruckheimer says that the next Lone Ranger will be a an unknown actor that audiences will be largely unfamiliar with. That fits with the Hammer rumors and doesn't seem as crazy an idea as you might think with this past weekends success of THOR which stars actor Chris Hemsworth, who's biggest screen credit before THOR was his turn as Captain Kirk's ill fated father at the beginning of J.J. Abrams 2009 reboot of Star Trek.

Casting an unknown is also probably a good move for a project that is set to star and be centered around Johnny Depp as Tonto, the Lone Ranger's loyal sidekick. However, instead of focusing specifically on the Lone Ranger, the storyline is told from Tonto's point of view. Depp has stated before that the project will be akin to Don Quixote told from the point of view of Sancho Panza. In fact there are further reports that the story actually heavy borrows from the Don Quixote story.

While progress on this film has been moving very slowly till now. We are now hearing that production is going to begin very soon, and right here in our own backyard. Local sources in the Albuquerque film industry are telling us that the Lone Ranger will be be coming to New Mexico. While our sources say that the film is definitely coming, it is still uncertain how much of the film will be shot here. The state is an obvious fit for the old west location shots but apparently the studio has yet to decide weather or not they will be conducting principle photography at Albuquerque Studio's.

Disney has already developed a strong presence in New Mexico with all digital effects on Alice In Wonderland done here, and last year the Disney Channel movie Lemonade Mouth shot right here in Albuquerque. Not to mention the fact that the Disney/MARVEL production of Avengers is currently filming at Albuquerque Studios. While many reports have stated that Bruckheimer, Verbinski, Depp and company were expected to begin production in the fall, we are hearing that Disney wants to begin production late this summer.
