The First Photo's From "Star Tours" At Disneyland

The genie is officially out of the bottle. Mark it, Monday May 16th, 2011 was the day the world was truly introduced to the new Star Tours. With the soft opening at Hollywood Studio's and the Cast Member premiere on the other coast at Disneyland, today was the day. Sure Disney Worlds version Officially opens this weekend, and Disneyland's on June 3rd, but for the die hard's, it was today. Through the wonders of social media, Disney and Star Wars fans across the globe were able to receive real time updates and descriptions of the ride. However, due to a very strong effort on the part of Disney Parks there were almost zero photos to be seen of the Walt Disney World incarnation of the ride. However, that was not the case at Disneyland.

We were able to obtain these few precious images of the main entrance area at the Disneyland Star Tours. Though you cannot make out any of the more detailed changes you can automatically tell that a major change has occurred. This is not the same Star Tours that closed last fall. To be honest, that is all most fans want to see.

Now, let it be understood, Disney doesn't want these photo's out. They want to build suspense and a desire to experience the attraction for yourself. Which is totally understandable. They spent the better part of year cooking up this magic trick and they dont want it ruined. However, the major detail they are overlooking is that thousands, upon thousands of fans wont be able to make it to a Disney park for a long while. The economy is still crappy and many people are having to shelve their summer travel plans. For them, all they want is a taste. hell, they just want to know what it looks like.

On Twitter today there has been a great amount of debate about blogs posting pics of Star Tours this early. Many, many people agree with the Disney line and think it's entirely inappropriate to post such photo's this early in the game. However, It does seem quite likely that so many of those people are only abstaining from posting such pictures, because Disney has done that good of a job at keeping guests from taking them.

Having said that, it does appear that their was some sort of lapse in security at Disneyland which is made evident by photo's like this one of Captain Rex, the former pilot of Star Tours, who has a very cool cameo in the new attraction. Now keep in mind we post this not for the bloggers and the "cool kids" who have already been aboard the Starspeeder 1000 five or six times. We post it for you. The fans who cannot simply drive up the freeway to your nearest Disney Park, because you dont have one.

**We have withheld the identity of the photographers because the nature of the Disneyland event was such that Cast Members, and their friends and family were the primary attendee's. Because of this, we want to do our best to ensure that no Cast Member loses their job over a photo that they may not even be aware was taken. We will identify the photographers at a later, less touchy date.
