Disney had already announced that Lion King was supposed to get a 3D up conversion and was to be released on Blu-Ray in the fall. However, today Disney has announced that The Lion King will return to North American theaters for a two week run. The films theatrical release will actually be very wide, in fact it will be in the most theaters it has been in since it's original 1994 release. Lion King roars back into theaters on September 16th and you can take it home on 3D Blu-Ray on October 4th.

OMG, the Lion King is my all-time favorite Disney animated feature. I can't believe it's going to be in theaters in 3D! September can't come soon enough...
Agreed, "Lion King" always struck me as the film where Disney remembered, "Hey, dont we own a multi-plane camera?" It was like the made up for decades of neglecting and hardly using the tool to using to ASTONISHING effect in "Lion King"
