It's a little shocking that Disney's Lion King is currently the king of the box office. With a shocking theatrical debut of $30 million that made the film #1 in the US, and another estimated $22.6 million in it's second week, This lion has roared to the top. It's even more surprising that in it's second week the film beat out Brad Pitt's base ball movie Moneyball and family film Dolphin Tale staring Morgan Freeman. Both films were critically lauded and had been expected to perform much better than they did. Now in another surprise move, Disney plans to extend Lion King's stay in theaters. According to CNN and the Disney Blog, Disney may extend what was originally intended as a two week stint. Given the film's enormous success the gorgeously enhanced 3-D version of the film will likely remain in theaters right up to the films 3-D Blu-ray release which is set to hit store shelves on October 4th.
