REVIEW - Kinect Disneyland Adventures

We welcome the reviewing talents of Gyophry, the new section editor of Vinylmation505! This week he took time from his busy schedule review Kinect Disneyland Adventures for the XBOX 360.

As a life-long gamer, I have had the pleasure to play some amazing (and not so amazing) Disney related games. From the classics “Duck Tales”, “Rescue Rangers”, and “Mickey Mousecapades” to the newer “Disney’s Magical Mirror starring Mickey Mouse” for the GameCube. These games have always focused on memorable characters and ideas, but have never captured the magic and excitement of the Disney Parks… until now.

Kinect: Disneyland Adventures for the Xbox 360 is one of two Disney titles available for the holidays this year, the other is “Disney Universe”. Now, “Disneyland Adventures” require a Kinect system with an Xbox 360, and approximately 10 feet of room space to play. The game is designed for up to two players and is rated E for Everyone.

The premise of the game is to enjoy all that Walt’s Park has to offer. Everything from the floral Mickey at the entrance, to original Main Street USA music, along with rides and attractions, all for the player to experience.

As a life-long gamer, I would describe the game as “My First RPG” you (as depicted by a child on-screen) have to assist lovable Disney characters throughout the park with quests, assignments, autographs, hugs, etc… The ability to hug Beast and high-five the Red Queen is just amazing. The difficulty curve for this title is great for the little ones (4-10) - just wandering the park and meeting the characters will be enough; however, for those of us established gamers, there are hundreds of collectibles and hidden gems to be found. Disney Trading Pins, hidden Mickeys, and photo pass locations are all featured.

For those of you out there saying “Where is the ‘game’ portion of this?”, I answer “Everywhere!” From the flashlight tag of the Haunted Mansion to racing down the Matterhorn, many of the classic rides have become mini-game collections. My personal favorite would have to be the zero-G floating of “Space Mountain”

Overall, this is an awesome game for the Disney Park fan in all of us, and actually, it’s an awesome game for anyone. Congrats to Microsoft, Frontier Games and Disney for giving all of us Kinect Owners a game that lives up to the promise made to us last year. Definitely a 5 out of 5 Mickeys! This has been one of my favorite games this year, so much that I don’t mind playing standing up.
