In a very quite move, Disney has hired it's directors for two of the Motion Picture Studio's upcoming projects that have been buzzed about for sometime. Way back in May of 2011 we told you about the all new Malificent project that was then set to be directed by Tim Burton. Now Burton-less, the film, which is described as a live action retelling of Sleeping Beauty as told from the villains point of view is heading towards pre-production. Disney has tapped Robert Stromberg to direct. Stromberg is best known to sci-fi and fantasy fans as the Production Designer on James Cameron's AVATAR and Tim Burton's live action version of Alice In Wonderland. The film was written by Linda Woolverton and is set to be produced by Joe Roth.
Also announced was the director for Disney's upcoming MATTERHORN film, that evidently will not be called 'Matterhorn.' Commercial director Brian Beletic, will helm the extreme sports, action adventure film that Disney has described as, “an origin story for a new generation of super explorers.” The untitled film will be a mixture of traditional adventure themes that will also focus on several aspects of extreme adventure sports and historical secrets.

A small group of young, super adventurer/explorers, each with a specific skill set, are brought to the remote backcountry of the Pennine Alps under various guises for a trek across one of the planet's remaining untouched realms. Here they partake in extreme skiing, snowboarding and mountaineering, encountering some of the world's most beautiful, but also perilous environments. In the face of life-threatening mountain conditions, they unravel the truth about one another, as well as why they were brought there, and ultimately uncover a mountain secret that may cost them their lives. And when the true motivation for their expedition comes to light, a covert organization with a long, yet secret history of global exploration is divulged.
The film is also expected to be a 'spoke' film to Disney's planned Magic Kingdom film that is currently being developed by Iron Man and Elf director Jon Favreau. The Magic Kingdom film is set to serve as something of a 'hub' film like MARVELS upcoming The Avengers is a 'hub' to their Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, and Hulk films.
