President Obama Speaks At WDW's Magic Kingdom

President Barrack Obama visited Walt Disney World today in an appearance designed to promote a new initiative to bolster international tourism to the United States.

[Today,] I directed my administration to send me a new national tourism strategy focused on creating jobs. And some of America’s most successful business leaders –- some who are here today –- have signed up to help. We’re going to see how we can make it easier for foreign tourists to find basic information about visiting America. And we’re going to see how we can attract more tourists to our national parks. We want people visiting not just Epcot Center, but the Everglades, too. The more folks who visit America, the more Americans we get back to work. It’s that simple.

Part of the Presidents new plan is to streamline the visa process for visitors from Brazil, China, and India, which would allow them quicker entry in to the U.S. for the purpose of tourism. Brazilian tourism is of specific interest to Disney as tourists from the South American nation have visited Walt Disney World in record numbers over the past five years.

However, it was difficult to ignore the irony of the President delivering a speech about bolstering tourism, when his very presence negatively impacted operations at the Magic Kingdom park, forcing Disney to close a significant part of the park and cancel many dining and tour reservations of park guests and tourists who had had their vacations planned months in advance. Especially irksome given that the rumors of the Presidents last minute stop at the Magic Kingdom didn't even begin until Tuesday, which gave park guests who were inconvenienced very little time to change their plans.

It is also important to note that on the same day he visited Walt Disney World, President Obama's re-election campaign began a multi-million dollar ad campaign that premiered on Florida television stations.
