Support Local Comic Book Retailers on FREE COMIC BOOK DAY

Since 2002 the somewhat monopolistic comic book distributor Diamond has openly promoted and grown their own kind of holiday for comic book fans. It is called FREE COMIC BOOK Day, and for the tenth consecutive year the comic book industry is using the day to encourage childhood literacy, promote the comics publishers that sponsor the event and make lots and lots of money for local retailers.

This year more than most, comic book retailers are feeling a changing wind that will likely alter the way they operate forever. As major publishers MARVEL and DC make a major push to expand the digital comics marketplace, comic book shops are left to ponder their future when digital media finally forces print comics to follow in the footsteps of the dinosaurs. This annual event helps those retails connect with their community directly and pull in new and casual comic book readers that can potentially become regular customers.

FREE COMIC BOOK DAY is a national event with participating retailers all over the country. Here in Albuquerque, TALL TALE COMICS, one of the cities oldest and most revered retailers is putting on a big event that includes artist and autor signings as well as autograph signing by three young actors from the motion picture hit of the Spring, Hunger Games. Across town, on Albuquerque's west side, the cities newest and coolest comic book retailer is Kaboom Test Lab's. On FREE COMIC BOOK DAY they will be celebrating the massive new expansion of their store. the event will also include author and artist signings as well as a special appearance by Albuquerque's Dewback Ridge Garrison of the 501st Star Wars Costuming Group, the Bat-Mobile, and whole lot more.

Dont know where to get your free comic books on FREE COMIC BOOK DAY? Well, check out the official website of the event, FreeComicBookDay.com and just use there store locator. Make sure to get out and show support for your local comic book retailers and get a fat stack of free comic books!
