Looks like Disney and MARVEL were hoping to announce the two mystery MARVEL movies at San Diego Comic Con but alas the blogosphere seems to have let the cat out of the bag. MTV Geek along with SEVERAL other outlets are reporting that the rumors are true. Gaurdians Of The Galaxy & Black Panther will join Captain America 2 on MARVEL's 2014 docket of films:
Step aside, Black Panther: another group of heroes are moving into Marvel Studios' second 2014 release slot.
Both Variety and Latino Review report that a "Guardians of the Galaxy" movie is officially in the works at Marvel, with a release date planned for May 16, 2014. Nicole Perlman wrote the script.
The move puts "Guardians" as the first new Marvel movie following "Iron Man 3" (May 2013), "Thor 2" (November 2013) and "Captain America 2" (April 2014). It was previously rumored that "Black Panther" would follow Cap's next big-screen adventure; it now appears that that privilege will belong to the Guardians.
Hailing from the 31st century, the Guardians consist of aliens who travel back in time to battle a menace known as the Badoon. Star-Lord, Drax and Rocket Raccoon are some of the characters commonly associated with the team. First appearing in the 1960s, the "Guardians" comics were recently relaunched in 2008 by Dan Abnett and Andy Landing, and are rumored to get another comics overhaul courtesy of longtime "Avengers" writer Brian Michael Bendis in the very near future.
