Today MARVEL Studio's unveiled the second grand stage of their epic movie plan, and where else would they do that but San Diego Comic Con? Phase one was the recent string of films that began with the first Iron Man film and culminated earlier this summer in The Avengers. Phase 2 begins in much the same manner as phase one did with Iron Man 3. This time around Tony Stark faces off against one of Iron Man's biggest villains from the comic books, The Mandarin. Iorn Man 3 will be heavily influenced by the 2006 Iron Man comic book story arc 'Extremis' in which Tony must stop a bio-mechanically altered mad man intent on revenge. This time Shane Black(Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Lethal Weapon) is directing with Robert Downey Jr, Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, and Jon Favreau are all set to return on screen.
There isnt a lot known about the story of THOR: The Dark World. What is public knowledge is who the key players will be in the film. Of course Chris Hemsworth is set to reprise his role as the God Of Thunder, and Natalie Portman, Stellan Skarsgard, and Kat Dennings are also along for the ride. Aside from THOR's earthling characters most of the actors who portrayed denizens of Asgard are set to return as well... With one huge exception. Actor Josh Dallas who portrayed Fandral The Dashing, one of the founding members of The Warriors Three, is enjoying the success of his ABC TV show Once Upon A Time... Unfortunately the shows shooting schedule prevents him from returning in the next THOR film. Fortunately, the man who had been MARVEL's first choice for the role Zachary Levi will be jumping right into Fandral's shoes. Levi has no such television obligations as his hit TV show CHUCK ended last year.
Of course the further we get down the list, the less we know about these films. However, the films title actually references a very specific story line in the comic books. An old friend from Steve Rogers past is used as an assassin and covert agent for decades, he is known only as The Winter Soldier. If film makers stay close to the original story arc it could have possibly fatal consequences for Captain America. Chris Evans & Samuel L. Jackson are already set to return with rumors swirling that actors Sebastian Stan and Richard Armitage may return.
Again, what we know... isn't very much. But, Guardians Of The Galaxy is set to be a very important link in MARVEL's Phase Two. Star Lord, Drax The Destroyer, and Rocket Raccoon are space cops. It will be up to them to save the universe from untold evil! Rumors run rampant but you may also see MARVEL comics favorite NOVA in here as well. We expect that THOR: The Dark World will lead directly into Guardians.
In the comic books Ant-Man is one of the founding members of The Avengers and has the power to shrink and enlarge his entire body. In The Avengers film, he was nowhere to be seen. Now audiences will get to meet Dr. Hank Pym, the man known to generations of comic book readers as Ant-Man, Giant man, Goliath, and the father of ULTRON. Director Edgar Wright(Shaun Of The Dead) had been hinting for quite sometime that Ant-Man was coming, but last month the rumors really began to swirl. It had been reported that Wright had actually filmed a test reel to show MARVEL execs that the CGI technology existed to make Ant-Man look real and believable. That test reel was shown to attendee's at San Diego Comic Con and the reaction of fans has been incredibly positive.
