If you dont know, here is a little history. Prior to Disney buying MARVEL in 2009, MARVEL had temporarily sold the film rights to several of it's characters to studio's like Twentieth Century Fox, and Paramount Pictures/SONY. When Disney completed the purchase of MARVEL, FOX & SONY realized their time with these properties was limited unless they began making more movies...very quickly. Which is exactly why we ended up with reboot films like X-Men: First Class(FOX), and The Amazing Spider-Man(SONY). Now that FOX is trying to reboot both Fantastic Four and Daredevil, things are really heating up.
Last week, rumors began to circulate that FOX was interested in trading film rights to a couple key MARVEL comics characters in order to keep the rights or make a deal on Daredevil, which reverts back to MARVEL & Disney's ownership if FOX does not begin production on DD film before October of THIS year. The rumor was that FOX was willing to trade Galactus and Silver Surfer. However, that makes little sense for a studio who is trying to revive the Fantastic Four franchise of which Galactus and Silver Surfer are key players. As it turns out, that part of the rumor was probably just fanboy wishful thinking.
Fast forward a couple days and now the story seems to be a little more simple. Given the time crunch, it seems that rather than give up the rights to Daredevil all together, FOX may be trying to partner up with MARVEL & Disney on the Daredevil film, much the same way they did with Paramount on THOR, Captain America: The First Avenger, and The Avengers. Word is that FOX already has an amazing script for the new film about the blind lawyer/vigilante that takes place in the late 1970's and borrows heavily from Frank Millers classic run on the Daredevil comic book.
In addition to all these rumors, it seems that the film may already have a director. In fact, the entire production process may actually be further along than anyone imagined as Joe Carnahan, who directed Liam Neeson in The Grey, is reportedly in final talks to direct the all new Daredevil film. We should know how this will work out pretty quickly as this story is rapidly developing.
