Walt Disney Pictures production of The Lone Ranger suffered a tragedy on Friday. An as of yet, unidentified crew member suffered an apparent heart attack while setting up an underwater shot in a pool located at a ranch near Palmdale, California. The crew member is believed to have been a certified diver and was wearing scuba equipment. He was evidently performing maintenance on the pool for an upcoming scene.
The death is a tragic turn for a production which has already had it's share of bad press and bad luck. Things had been looking up for the production as there had been a lot of positive press and most of principal filming had already been completed. The Lone Ranger is slated for a July 3rd 2013 release and stars Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer. Disney confirmed the tragedy late Friday with this press release:
We regretfully confirm that a Lone Ranger crew member has passed away after being taken to a local hospital. Our hearts and thoughts are with his family, friends, and colleagues at this time, and our full support is behind the investigation into the circumstances of this terrible event.
