Support Your Local Retailer On FREE COMIC BOOK DAY, May 4th

Since 2002 the somewhat monopolistic comic book distributor Diamond has openly promoted and grown their own kind of holiday for comic book fans. It is called FREE COMIC BOOK Day, and for the eleventh consecutive year the comic book industry is using the day to encourage childhood literacy, promote the comics publishers that sponsor the event and make lots and lots of money for local retailers.

As major publishers MARVEL and DC continue to push to expand the digital comics marketplace, comic book shops are left to ponder their future when digital media finally forces print comics to follow in the footsteps of the dinosaurs. This annual event helps those retails connect with their community directly and pull in new and casual comic book readers that can potentially become regular customers.

FREE COMIC BOOK DAY is a national event with participating retailers all over the country. Here in Albuquerque, Kaboom Test Lab's, New Mexico's largest comic book retailer and pop culture stores will be celebrating at both their east and west side locations. the event will also include author and artist signings as well as a special appearance by Albuquerque's Dewback Ridge Garrison of the 501st Star Wars costuming group, the Justice League of New Mexico costuming group, the Bat-Mobile, and whole lot more.
