Normally when a studio hasn't officially announced a project, you have to accept that any news you are hearing is just rumor. However, when it's the news regarding Disney's upcoming sequel to TRON and TRON: Legacy, you have to consider the source. Because so far the reports have been appearing in an ascending fashion. Allow me to explain.
The first rumors hit in early March indicating that the film would be shooting in Vancouver in October of this year. That news came from a local Vancouver blog VANCITYBUZZ that seemed to be legit, but was of course unconfirmed. The next rumors came from film industry trade website Production Weekly, and their information confirmed the news from VANCITYBUZZ but also contained an as of yet unconfirmed reports that Legacy director Joseph Kosinski will return for TRON 3 and that the film would be titled TRON: Ascension.
Now, Disney still hasn't said a single word about the future of the TRON franchise but one of the film industries biggest trade publications has. The Hollywood Reporter revealed yesterday that Olivia Wilde who played Quorra and Garret Hedlund who played Sam Flynn in TRON: Legacy will indeed be starring in TRON 3. There is still no word if the stars of the original 1982 TRON film Jeff Bridges and Bruce Boxleitner will return. We will of course have more news as this story develops.
