Late in his life,Walt Disney once said "It's kind of fun to do the impossible." He certainly would have known too. A much younger Walt Disney had a dream to make cartoons. He began a business and was successful for a time. That was until the rights to his star character(Oswald the Lucky Rabbit), and most of his animators were stolen away from him. There in that moment I wonder what Walt Disney was thinking. I wonder how tough the road ahead looked to him, I wonder how much he worried about the future. He must have thought at least for a moment that starting all over again was going to be impossible.Maybe it was the hard nosed work ethic he learned from his father, an Irish/Canadian immigrant. Maybe it was the same youthful swagger and bravado that drove him to join the army at the age of 17, a year before he was legally able to do so. But some unknown force drove Walt forward. He started over again, and slowly but surely, Walt made the impossible possible. He also did it several times.
Halfway through the Continental army's fight for independence, George Washington was filled with despair. Those quiet morning hours at Valley Forge must have been horrible. Men moaning in agony as their feet and fingers froze in the bitter winter cold. Thousands died from cold and disease. Surely during those dark days, the thought must have crossed his mind that this entire enterprise of Liberty must be impossible. Maybe it was his past experience as a Soldier, or maybe it was his unfailing devotion to his men. But some unknown force drove Washington forward. After six months he did eventually get his men out of Valley Forge and eventually, Washington would deliver the final blow to the British army and force their surrendered at Yorktown in 1781.
On July 3rd 2009, One thousand people were sworn in as American citizens at a naturalization ceremony held at Walt Disney World in Florida. I do not personally know anyone who was involved in the ceremony, but I do know this; Yesterday someone's impossible dream came true. Out of a thousand people standing there in the shadow of Walt Disney's crowning achievement, there are surely those tales of poverty, heartache and tragedy. Stories of genocide,persecution, and war. These are individuals who at the beginning of their journey must have thought that the task was impossible. But through hard work and determination they pushed themselves forward. They pushed themselves to America. Surely those newly minted citizens realize that it wasn't some "unknown force" that drove them to this moment in their lives. It was a thirst for Freedom and Liberty, and a chance to make your own dreams come true. For those people, their impossible dream came true in the "Magic Kingdom." Proving that apparently it can be "...kind of fun to do the impossible"
