D23 ROUNDUP! Star Tours 2

As you may have heard Last week at Disney's HUGE D23 expo, Disney Parks President Jay Rasulo announced that STAR TOURS 2 is finally coming to Disneyland in California and Walt Disney World in Florida. What we know for sure is this: The current incarnation of the ride will close in October 2010 and reopen, sometime in 2011. Rasulo said Star Tour 2 will be a completely new adventure and it will be presented in 3-D! I have to say i expected to hear a lot more details about this, given the fact that Disney & Lucasfilm have been working on this for so long, but I suppose that since they have about 2 years until the opening they can afford to let the details trickle out. Lucky for you guy's I am impatient and I want details NOW! Slash Film.com had this little tid-bit from their insider: "The revamp will incorporate prequel characters (like Naboo citizens and Geonosians) along with many aliens from the original trilogy (Aqualish. Bith, Rodians, etc). In the action sequence, the Star Tours vehicle is now going to be chased by Boba Fett. C3PO and R2-D2 are still the hosts… Admiral Ackbar holographically communicates with the Star Tours vehicle. I’m hearing that its essentially the same ride but updated." For me this is "GEEK HEAVEN!" Star Tours is my MUST ride, every time we go to Disneyland, Star Tours must be visited, and I foresee many re-rides in my future! This new version is probably only going to re-energize mine and countless others geeky need to ride the stars with STAR TOURS!!! Now, here are a few videos that you Star Wars geeks are gonna love!

Orlando Attractions magazine posted this video of Disney Parks Chairman Jay Rasulo making the Star Tour 2 announcement:

All Ears.net had a better seat in the arena, but not as good a camera. Here is their video of Jay Rasulo's announcement:

Disneyland News.com posted this short 2-D rendering of the Pod Race scene with this description: In an exciting scene from the new Star Tours, guests aboard Starspeeders will join in a high-speed pod race through the desert canyons of Tatooine. The launch of the new Star Wars based attraction was announced at the D23 Expo on Saturday by Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman Jay Rasulo.
