Keith Richards Returns To "On Stranger Tides" Though He Was Never Actually Fired.

As we told you last week, the internet was buzzing with the news that Disney was to fire Keith Richards from Pirates Of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides due to unrepentant claims made by the Rolling Stones guitarist about his past drug use, which appear in his new autobiography 'Life.' Many websites and blogs stoked the fire by headlining the story as if Richards had already been fired! At least we had the decency to headline that statement with a question mark. Which was done in an attempt to cast doubt on the story. Because, as you may recall, when we posted the Keith Richards story we said it was unlikely Disney would fire Richards... And we were right.

Yesterday Disney Pictures released the above statement via their Twitter feed. The announcement came pretty much the way we expected. It seemed to us that the entire purpose of releasing the story in the first place was to get in front of parents groups who might have a knee jerk reaction to Keith Richards involvement after his seeming glorification of drug use in print. Then the entertainment blogs and TV shows got a hold of the story and began to declare how naive Disney is acting. Announcing how silly and outrageous it is to fire Keith Richards for behavior that everyone knows he is famous for. Then Disney was able to quietly announce their intentions to keep Richards on the project and thus satisfy everybody and keep the chaos to a bare minimum. Well played Disney, well played.
