All wrapped up in the holiday rush? Take some time to let down your hair to see the most delightful animated film of the season. Disney’s Tangled marks the 50th animated film released by the Walt Disney Studios. Looking back, it’s amazing to see just how much innovation has taken place in the 75+ years since the release of the worlds first animated feature, Snow White. What better way to celebrate this amazing accomplishment than with a fun and witty comedy that brings the classic Disney style together with modern computer animation.
Tangled retells the classic Grimm fairytale of Rapunzel with a twist that could only come from Disney. As the story goes, Repunzel is blessed with a special gift of healing with her long golden hair. In an act to stay forever young, Mother Gothel kidnaps Rebunzel and hides her away in a tower. With a song and a touch of the girls golden hair, Gothel would return to her youthful self. Repunzel only knows Gothel as her mother and trusts her direction that Rapunzel must stay in the tower to avoid the evil of the outside world. And so it continued for many years until on the verge of here 18th birthday.
An unforeseeable sequence of events leads an unsuspecting thief, Flynn Ryder to the tower. Little does he know how much trouble he would find inside. After a few...more like several, knocks on the head Fylnn finally makes a bargain to escort Rapuzel out of the tower. She wants him to act as her guide to the source of the floating lights that she has seen every year on her birthday. What follows is the adventure of Rapunzel's lifetime. Filled with danger, romance and wonders unseen.
The movie brings so many great elements together to create another timeless Disney fairytale. The mix between the classic Disney musical and modern day computer animation illustrates that you can in fact have an amazing story with state of the art graphics(a trick Walt Disney Animation may have finally learned from Pixar). This is the first Computer generated film made by Disney pictures that in my opinion really has the feel of those classic Disney films of yore. The best part is the way the classic feel is almost made fun of. Just like Disney’s Enchanted, Tangled pokes fun at the history of Prince/Princess behavior and how today the “Smolder” just won’t cut it.
In addition to the talented cast of lovable characters are the wonderful musical numbers. Before you know it you’ll be singing along as an unlikely gang of characters tells us all about their hopes and dreams. Speaking of 'dreams' that’s the common theme is this film. The simple and straight forward message is to follow your dreams. For some realizing those dreams can be the most amazing experience in their lives and for others they find new dreams that can redefine who they are.
Go see this Film! I could talk all day about the difference between 2D and 3D animation or the visually stunning emotion brought out during the musical numbers but the best way to experience this film is to just see it. While everyone is fighting the holiday crowds go on an adventure with Disney’s 50th masterpiece.
