When TRON: Legacy hits theaters in less than two weeks it will mark the feature film directorial debut of Joseph Kosinski. Thats right, Tron Legacy is his rookie effort. That fact begs the question, "Why would Disney trust a possible billion dollar franchise to a rookie director?"
There are actually two answers to that. One is 'Vision.' From the beginning Kosinski has known exactly what he wanted the world of TRON to be and Disney believed in him.
Secondly, Kosinski has a very strong body of work. Yes TRON Legacy is his first feature, but he is an accomplished commercial director.
With the Gears of War ads he manages to bring an emotional depth to a video game that is essentially all about killing monsters.
With this ad for HALO 3, Kosinski was able to take us back to Master Chiefs childhood and a wish that would come back to haunt him. Really great stuff. I have to believe that Disney was as impressed by these ads as we were and hope that their gamble on Kosinski is a very successful one.
