As you may have already heard, Disney & MARVEL's production of The Avengers has finally finished it's 5 month stint in the desert heat of Albuquerque New Mexico. And while they may have left the dry desert air and frequent triple digit heat, they also left something rather important behind in New Mexico... Unprecedented set security. Almost immediately after The Avengers arrived in Cleveland, the set photo's began to hit the internet. This cool image from the set comes from ComicBookMovie.com. According to the north-central Ohio newspaper, The Sandusky Register, The Avengers will be shooting scenes at NASA's Plum Brook Station. However, only one of the films stars will be shooting there:
Filming began Monday at NASA Plum Brook Station for the new star-studded Marvel Comics movie, "The Avengers."
The filming is taking place in the big vacuum chamber at Plum Brook’s Space Power Facility and is expected to last the rest of the week, said Sally Harrington, NASA’s spokeswoman for Plum Brook.
NASA is apparently treating the filming like a national security matter and has ordered employees not to talk to the press.
It’s believed, however, that Samuel L. Jackson is the only big star from the film who is filming at Plum Brook.
Plum Brook has guards who control entrance into the facility, allowing visitors to enter only after showing their identification.
What is very interesting is that this development actually seems to add credence to a spoiler filled rumor that indicated that Nick Fury will be abducted by a Skrull space ship! Very cool stuff.
On August 19th Disney Studio's will unveil their slate of new projects for the foreseeable future. Of course the tent pole of this presentation will be the spotlight on The Avengers. It's rumored that director Joss Whedon is set to reveal footage from the film and that "some" of the stars of the film will appear as well. Of course, the specifics of which cast members will attend will remain a secret until the day of the presentation. In addition to The Avengers goodies, two new untitled MARVEL films will be announced during the same presentation. It's still a complete mystery as to which two films those might be but the smart bet would be the announcement of Ant-Man & Doctor Strange to hit theaters in 2014. It seems to me that other studios should take note of the fact how easy it is to shoot securely and secretly. Most NM care a big deal about the film industry, but we're so naturally laid back to just let everyone do their work without trying to spoil the interwebs.
