It's really hard to believe that it was way back in January when we saw this amazing documentary at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival. Weirder still, was the unabashed fawning of the ultra hip and cynical crowd that flocks to Sundance. That kind of loving crowd reaction has followed Being Elmo through out the films 2011 film festival tour. Now, audiences nationwide will get to see the phenomenal story of Sesame Street's little red monster and his alter ego, puppeteer Kevin Clash.
The film tells Clashes story as a young boy with a dream, who pursued that dream with passion and drive to become the creator and living spirit of one of the best known fictional characters in human history. Simulatneously, Being Elmo chronicles the 'Golden Age' of Muppet history, during the 70's and 80's. The film also gives audiences a rarely glimpsed perspective of Jim Henson as a mentor and the profound effect he had on a young Kevin Clash.
