Is Tom Hanks In Talks To Play Walt Disney In 'Saving Mr. Banks?'

Only one day after the Huffington Post published an excellent article about Walt Disney, in which Diane Disney Miller waxes nostalgic about her father and and the new museum that bears his name, comes some pretty fascinating news about a possible biopic, of sorts, that is in the works. Deadline.com is reporting today that Walt Disney Pictures is currently in talks to purchase the right to "Saving Mr. Banks" a 'Black Listed' script that was/is considered to be one of the best unproduced films of 2011.

Saving Mr. Banks tells the story of Walt Disney's series of attempts over a 14 year period to purchase from author P.L. Travers, the rights to her book Mary Poppins. The film is also about Travers deeply personal attachment to the story and it's characters. Now, Deadline does speculate a bit on who is being considered for the two primary roles in the film, and the names are pretty big ones. Evidently Disney is hoping to coax Tom Hanks in to the role of Walt Disney himself, and Meryl Streep in the role of P.L. Travers. However, all of this is must be taken with a heavy dose of salt as Disney hasn't even acquired the rights to the story yet. So, at the moment speculation is all that it is.
