Tuesday Travel Tip- Walt Disney World Tickets

When planning your vacation to Disney World even the park tickets can get complicated. Do you buy them as part of your Disney Package while staying onsite? If staying offsite should you buy in advance or when you get to the parks? At which point does an Annual Pass make sense? Let’s look at each of these.
Buying park tickets as a part of your travel package always make sense if you are staying onsite. The cost is reduced and you lock in the rate once you buy your tickets. Annually Disney will increase the park ticket costs, so the sooner you lock this in the better.
If staying offsite you have many options when buying park tickets; you can buy online at the Disney World website, you can wait until you get to Florida, you can buy from the Disney store, or you can buy from a discount vendor. Typically I recommend Undercover Tourist for discount tickets over buying direct. There are savings to buying from them and you get the same ticket options as buying direct from Disney. One ticket option you should think of the No Expiration tickets. As I explained, Disney does raise the price of tickets every year – this option lets you buy the tickets and use them for your trip, and then any remaining days can be used for a future Disney vacation. Get these tickets now with no expiration as the rumor is that they will be discontinued.
At which point does an Annual Pass make sense? The math works out to visiting the parks for more than 10 days within a year. I try to make this work by scheduling multiple trips within a year where the tickets expire right after our last trip.
Buying the annual pass also has some perks which make it worth it to us. This generally these would be merchandise discounts (who doesn’t leave some money at Disney) or buying the Tables in Wonderland card (a Dining Discount Card).
There are multiple levels of Annual Passes at Disney World and I don’t recommend the Deluxe Annual Pass unless you will be visiting the Water parks or Disney Quest.
