WonderCon 2012: What To Expect

This weekend, the largest comic book convention in Northern California, and arguably one of the biggest Con's in the world, WonderCon will get underway in Southern California. Typically held in San Francisco, this years event has relocated to the Anaheim Convention Center just across the street from Disneyland! There years event will feature some of the biggest names in Comic Books, Television and Film, as well as sneak peeks at some of the coolest genre events that will shape pop culture in the next year. here now are the top 5 things that we will be focusing on at WonderCon 2012!

5)COSPLAY!
The fact of the matter is, the single coolest thing to enjoy at any con, that is almost free of charge, is the endless parade of Con attendee's dressed up as their favorite characters from Comics, Anime, Television and Film. Indeed, some cosplayer's are of the amateur variety, but there are many who do this professionally. They attend numerous Con's every year and are constantly adjusting and improving their costumes. So, regardless of Amateur or Pro, the Cosplayers will be out in force, and we cannot wait to see what is in store.

4)MARVEL
They are known as the House Of Idea's, and MARVEL has every intention to prove it at this years WonderCon! Sure, DC Comic's new relaunch of most of their titles, The New 52 has been a sales juggernaut. However it has really done nothing to effect MARVEL's stranglehold on on the realm of comics, but more specifically and importantly in film. MARVEL will be unavoidable as they have several panels at WonderCon. As well, fans will be able to visit the Mighty MARVEL booth for more superhero awesomeness.

3)Digital Comics
Put quite simply, the battle over the future of digital comics, is about the future of the comic book industry. Just as the Motion Picture and Music Industries grapple with the question of electronic distribution, no other industry stands to be effected by it more than Comic's. Is it simply a question of print vs. digital? Or is there more to it than that? Where do Trade Paperbacks fit in the picture and where do Comic Book retailers stand if digital comics become the new paradigm? With digital comic book distributor Comixology hosting their own panel, and a debate about the price of digital vs. print, the subject is one that will be under massive scrutiny during the 2012 WonderCon.

2)Sound Of My Voice
Last January at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival, we were among the first moviegoers to see a movie that has haunted us for well over a year. The Sound Of My Voice is a super low budget thriller that will grab a hold of you and wont let go. Fans of the ABC television show LOST will love the tense and disturbing plot that will drag your mind and heart in one direction while simultaneously dragging you to places you never see coming. The Sound Of My Voice will keep you guessing up until the final frame, and will have you asking questions and wanting more for a long time afterwards. There will be a Q&A panel featuring the films star and co-writer Brit Marling(Another Earth) and Director Zal Batmanglij. As well, followers of the mysterious cult featured in the film will greet Con guests at the Sound Of My Voice booth.

1)Amazing Spider-Man
Sony and 20th Century Fox want to make sure that you and everyone you know are aware of their big reboot of the Spider-Man film franchise. The Amazing Spider-Man hits theaters on July 3rd, with an all new script, all new villain , and an all new webslinger. Actor Andrew Garfield stars as Peter Parker/Spider-Man as well as Rhys Ifans, as Doctor Connors/The Lizard. Both Sony and 20th Century Fox will have seperate panels to discuss Amazing Spider-Man and other projects from each respective company. No doubt that both of these events will help to increase the buzz about this mid-summer blockbuster.
