Doctor Who's Karen Gillan Cast As Female Villain In MARVEL's 'Guardians Of The Galaxy'

For four seasons, Doctor Who fans knew her as Amelia Pond, the girl who waited. She was a phenomenon to legions of the BBC shows fans. So much so, that when her character was killed off, there was a staggering outcry. Now it seems that those fans will get to see the Karen Gillan try something very villainous.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the story tonight that Gillan has signed on with MARVEL studios to play the lead female villain in Guardians Of The Galaxy. Gillan joins Lee Pace(Pushing Daisies, The Fall) and Michael Rooker(Walking Dead) in a trio of villains who will put the screws to the films heroes. The list goes something like this; Chris Pratt(Parks and Rec) is set to play the team leader Star Lord. Zoe Saldana (Star Trek: Into Darkness, Avatar) is set to play the galaxies most deadly assassin Gamora. David Bautista(WWE) is set to portray Drax The Destroyer, but still no word on who is likely to play fan favorite Rocket Raccoon.

To some, Karen Gillans casting may come as something odd. First due to the fact that she is the second Doctor Who alumni to make the switch to the MARVEL Cinematic Universe. Actor Chris Eccleston (The 9th Doctor) is portraying Malakith The Accursed in THOR: The Dark World this November. Secondly, Gillan's casting comes on the heels of the news that John C. Riley (Wreck It Raplh, Stepbrothers) and the legendary Glenn Close (Damages, 101 Dalmations) will be portraying the leaders of the Super Nova Corps.

Still no word on who exactly Gillan will be playing but with the pace at which the casting news is flying out about Guardians, it shouldn't be long until we know. Any guesses on who she could be playing? Guardians Of The Galaxy is set to blast into theaters on August 1st 2014!
