This film has had a complicated development. It was originally slated to be a direct to blu-ray film, then Disney switched gears. Evidently they are so sure of the quality of the animation and the story that they decided to release the film to theaters. That wasn't the only major change. In August of 2011, We were on hand at the D23 Expo when Disney Animation chief John Lasseter introduced actor John Cryer (Two And A Half Men) as the star of the film. Then, earlier this year, the studio announced that Cryer was out and comedian/actor Dane Cook (Employee Of The Month, Dan in Real Life) was in, as the main character Dusty. Like we said, there were problems. But, Disney has faith in the film. That or they have faith in the fact that a spin-off of CARS will generate some serious dollars in merchandise sales. Having said that, this new trailer actually shows that this film does have some potential. PLANES flies into American theaters August 9th and then swoops into UK cinema's on August 16th.
From above the world of "Cars" comes "Disney's Planes," an action-packed 3D animated comedy adventure featuring Dusty (voice of Dane Cook), a plane with dreams of competing as a high-flying air racer. But Dusty's not exactly built for racing—and he happens to be afraid of heights. So he turns to a seasoned naval aviator who helps Dusty qualify to take on the defending champ of the race circuit. Dusty's courage is put to the ultimate test as he aims to reach heights he never dreamed possible, giving a spellbound world the inspiration to soar.
Voice cast includes Dane Cook, Brad Garrett, Teri Hatcher, John Cleese, Priyanka Chopra, Anthony Edwards, Val Kilmer and David "Crofty" Croft.
