The most intriguing thing about MARVEL's Cinematic Universe is that like their regular comic book universe or their Ultimate universe it is an entire realm unto itself. Where classic characters occupy the same space and time as their cinematic counterparts. This was most effectively accomplished with Iron Man, Iron Man 2, THOR, Captain America: The First Avenger and The Avengers. In addition to this celluloid cohesion, MARVEL comics began producing comic book preludes of their films. The comics have helped to fill in the blanks between the films and help to round out what has commonly been referred to as the MCU.
In issue #1 of the THOR: The Dark World prelude, we are reintroduced to the Realm Eternal of Asgard and are brought up to speed on the chaos wrought across the nine realms by Loki and the results of his actions in THOR and The Avengers. The really fulfilling part of the book is that the all important question of how THOR got back to Earth after the destruction of the Bi-Frost is finally answered and we even get a glimpse at Thanos and other unseen realms. THOR: The Dark World preludes is currently available at your local comic book retailer, Comixology or via the MARVEL comics online.
